Amber Henderson is the owner and soapmaker of Hollister Soap House. Having been an urban homesteader in the Silicon Valley for years prior to moving with her young family to Hollister, California, it was not much of a jump when her husband suggested she make soap with the extra milk from their son's goat herd. Hence began her research; soaking up every bit of information she could glean from articles, books, and online contacts of hardcore homesteaders, hobbyists, and professional soap makers.
After three years of studying and testing theory, practicing formula development, and much product testing, Hollister Soap House became a small business. Amber says, inspired by their family's historic, Italianate Victorian home, "I keep my soap simple and of a quality that is rare today."
This artisan business began as a homemaking project in 2012 and in January 2016, Hollister Soap House was moved to its current workshop/retail shop in the Historic Downtown District of Hollister, California where there is room to grow.
